Lane Cove National Park
www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/visit-a-park/parks/lane-cove-national-park There are various walks you can do in the Park. An easy and pretty walk is the Riverside walking track, www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/things-to-do/Walking-tracks/Riverside-walking-track. The photo shows things we collected from the ground when we did the walk. You can see the variety of flowers and plants. |
Wentworth Common
www.sydneyolympicpark.com.au/whats_on/parks/wentworth_commonThis is a lovely open space near the Brick Pit. There is the common, a small play area with running water and sand (see the frog sculptures below) and a larger playground with a flying fox. There are also covered picnic areas. You can see in the picture to the left a track which winds up a hill which is quite easy to ride. |
Newington Armory
www.sydneyolympicpark.com.au/whats_on/parks/newington_armory The Newington Armory has a mixture of fascinating history (www.sopa.nsw.gov.au/our_park/history_and_heritage/naval_history), wonderful open spaces, the BirdLife Discovery Centre and is the host to free art exhibitions. Here you can ride bikes, the children can run around and you'll see original buildings and tunnels reflecting the site's history. There is also the BirdLife Discovery Centre (www.sydneyolympicpark.com.au/whats_on/things_to_do_and_see_events/birds_australia_discovery_centre) and we've seen beautiful birds, lizards and rabbits during our visits. You can play disc golf if you bring your own frisbee and there are lots of lovely spots to picnic. You can also walk down to the Parramatta River and visit the Blaxland Riverside Park (below). There are also artists in residence at the Armory. |
Art at the Amory
The Armory often hosts free art exhibitions. In particular, in Building 18 on your left as you enter the Armory from the Parramatta River end, they have the Art Express exhibition of students' HSC works which is really amazing - artexpress.artsunit.nsw.edu.au/. |
